Christ the Living Stone and a Chosen People

1 Peter 2:4-12

2
Chapter 2
4 To whom you are approaching, a living stone—indeed rejected by humans but chosen and precious in the sight of God. 5 And you yourselves, like living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house into a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 Therefore it says in Scripture, “Behold, I lay in Zion a cornerstone, chosen, precious, and whoever believes in it shall never be put to shame.” 7 Therefore, to you who believe, the honor; but to those who disbelieve, the stone that the builders rejected—this has become the cornerstone. 8 and a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense. They stumble at the word, being disobedient, to which they were also appointed. 9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for acquisition, so that you may proclaim the virtues of the one who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 You who once were not a people but now are a people of God, who had not been pitied but now have been pitied. 11 Beloved, I exhort you as sojourners and temporary residents to abstain from fleshly desires, which war against the soul. 12 your conduct among the nations being good, so that in that which they speak evil of you as evildoers, they may glorify God in the day of visitation when they observe your good works.
